Design for Planet: Digital Design
Online event – July 23, 9am – 10am CEST 2025
In this webinar series on Design for Planet, Fershad will be part of the panel and in-depth discussion on what it means to be a sustainable digital designer. He is joined by Ben Rennie, co-founder and managing partner at Reny ®, and Chris Speed, Professor of Design for Regenerative Futures at RMIT, Melbourne, Australia.

Amsterdam, Netherlands – July 8 2025
How can a website’s frontend respond to the state of the electricity grid? In this talk, Fershad Irani introduced The Green Web Foundation’s latest initiative: Grid-aware Websites. This project empowers designers and developers to build websites that react to the type of electricity powering a visitor’s session – adapting design and features to reduce environmental impact during high-carbon periods.

Chris Adams was speaking at the first digital sustainability track of the GroenLinks-PvdA’s annual Digital Summit, an event to explore how to lead the digital transition in fair, humane ways – so that everyone benefits.

Melbourne, Australia – June 12 & 13 2025
Fershad Irani gave his talk “Building a grid-aware web”. What if websites could adapt their behaviour based on the electricity powering them? This talk explored the vision of a grid-aware web that responds dynamically to the availability of clean power sources. He examined the role that developers, designers, and decision makers can play in pioneering a web that operates with a sustainable focus.
